Schoolchildren call for greater environmental protection

Schoolchildren placed a strong emphasis on animal welfare in letters they read to Resources Minister George Pullicino today in an event organised by BirdLife Malta.

They also called for greater use of alternative sources of energy and protection for scenic sites such as Ramla and Hondoq ir-Rummien bays.

Mr Pullicino tried to reply to the children in language they could understand, although it was difficult sometimes, such as when he asked whether people were prepared to have part of their taxes spent on the purchase of buildings which would then be removed for environmental purposes.

One of the children called for bring-in sites in all localities. Mr Pulicino agreed, but said some local councils tended to give in when people complained, adding there was need for people to stick to difficult decisions.

In their letters the children also urged the minister to ensure that hotels do not take over bays and to control over-fishing.

The children are rightly taught to help protect the environment at schools, but see/hear the government contradicting what they being taught. Of course they place a strong emphasis on animal welfare. The govt did nothing so far for animals (heq, they have no vote!).
Hope the Minister take note of what these children said to protect scenic sites like Ramla and Hondoq ir-Rummien bays!
They are also right about bring-in sites and hotels taking over bays.
At least children think with their heads, unlike some people who think that whatever the govt do is always right!

Pity they did not ask about the latest monstosity in Xemxija.
And also come to think of it, about all the past monstrosities when he was responsible for Mepa.
