Joanna Camilleri is back home after taking part in the Judo World Cup in Rome.
The trip was part of Camilleri's international schedule and made possible following the introduction of the MOC Centre of Excellence programme.
Camilleri is a member of the MIA Gold Athlete Scheme sponsored by the Malta International Airport.
A total of 16 judokas participated in the U-63kg class, including some with a world ranking. Participants hailed from Germany, France, Italy, Ukraine, Russia, Slovenia, Spain, Italy, Australia, Croatia, Poland and Malta.
Camilleri's first bout was against Ukraine's Olena Sayko (world no.54). The Maltese judoka was pinned to the floor as Sayko applied an arm lock.
The Ukrainian also won her second bout to make it to the quarter-finals. This gave Camilleri the chance to compete in the Repechage for third place against Slovenia's Tina Razinger (no.83). The latter won the bout and Camilleri had to settle for ninth place overall.
