A man who caused over €1,165 (Lm500) damage to his former girlfriend’s car was today conditionally discharged for three years.

André Buhagiar, 27 from Luqa, was originally charged with causing the damage to the car, stealing the car radio, slightly injuring Charmaine Camilleri, insulting her and relapsing.

The court presided by Magistrate Lawrence Quintano heard how the couple had started an argument and it got out of hand. After the argument was over, Mr Buhagiar approached a policeman, told him what had just happened and admitted to damaging the car.

Magistrate Quintano said that no evidence was produced to prove that the radio was stolen and the alleged victim had been slightly injured by Mr Buhagiar. In view of the lack of evidence Magistrate Quintano could only find Mr Buhagiar guilty of damaging the car by his own admission. He was subsequently conditionally discharged for three years.

Police Inspectors Martin Sammut and Carmelo Abdilla prosecuted.

Lawyers Anġlu Farrugia and Edward Gatt appeared for Mr Buhagiar.
