Object found in field was a bomb

The "suspicious object" found in a private field in Wied Dalam, close to Borg in-Nadur in Birżebbuġa on Sunday, was an incendiary bomb, the Explosive Ordnance Disposal Unit of the AFM confirmed yesterday.

Sources said the device was of the type which is timed to explode and start a fire.

The object, found in a plastic bag, consisted of a timer and electric wires apart from other items used in the manufacture of explosive devices.

The item was found near archaeological remains and an Enemalta fuel underground installation that is fed from the Ħas Saltan storage plant.
