The Labour Party has still not accepted the resignation of MP Joe Debono Grech from the party and is waiting to hear from him on the matter, general secretary Jason Micallef said.
Mr Debono Grech, the party's most senior parliamentarian, handed in his resignation personally at the party headquarters on Saturday afternoon. He resigned from the party but not as an MP and did not list the reasons for his decision.
Mr Micallef and Labour leader Joseph Muscat visited the Santa Venera party club on Sunday evening in a series of visits to clubs. There they met Mr Debono Grech's two brothers and told them to pass on the message that they were not accepting the parliamentarian's resignation, Mr Micallef told The Times when contacted.
The party was now waiting to hear from Mr Debono Grech but had not heard from him until yesterday afternoon, Mr Micallef said.
