Maltese oil worker George Scerri, kidnapped in Nigeria on May 23, has again made contact with his Nigerian wife, informed sources said today.

Scerri was kidnapped by unidentified gunmen along with a Pakistani colleague in Omoku, outside the main oil city Port Harcourt.

The kidnappers are believed to have demanded a ransom.

The sources said a Maltese Foreign Ministry delegation, currently in Nigeria, has extended its stay in the hope of further developments. The delegation is led by Cecilia Attard Pirotta, permanent secretary at the foreign ministry.
