The public will be able to visit parts of a candle-lit Fort St Angelo in Vittoriosa this Friday.

A spokesman for the 2008 Special Feast Committee of St Lawrence Parish, which is organising the event, said the middle and upper parts of the fort will be open to the public . The Order of the Knights of St John, which was allocated the upper part of the historic fort a few years back, invested heavily in restoration works there, a spokesman for the organisers said.

The work was mainly focused on the Magisterial Place, the oldest part of the fort. The chapel dedicated to St Anne was also restored. The chapel will host an exhibition of etchings of Rhodes, silverware and sacred items connected with the Order of St John.

The Armed Forces of Malta band, St Lawrence brass band, the Malta Police jazz band and the Denner Clarinet Quartette will be in attendance.

A number of stalls selling Maltese food will be mounted and actors in traditional Maltese costumes will welcome visitors. A minibus service will run between the bus terminus and Fort St Angelo.

The event, organised with the collaboration of the Malta Tourism Authority and with the permission of the Order of St John and Heritage Malta, starts at 7 p.m.
