Labour MP Chris Cardona, who will be contesting for the position of MLP deputy leader for parliamentary affairs on Thursday, has called on the delegates to keep in mind that they should vote for the individual who fulfilled the parameters of the new leadership.

While welcoming Joseph Muscat as the party’s newly elected leader, he said this morning that the deputy ought to reflect the same political image that saw the Labour party as one that welcomed the moderate and progressive
people and that reached out to appeal to the electorate.

Dr Cardona said he believed there was the need to rethink the MLP’s policy-making by ensuring that policy presented to the electorate was “bullet proof” and could not be attacked on the eve of an election. Policy, he added, must address the needs and expectations of the electorate.

All this would be achieved by opening the discussion of the party’s agenda to an array of people who were genuinely interested in the success of the Labour Party as the socialist force.

He also called on delegates to vote for a deputy leader that had shown loyalty towards the party, as he had done.
He ended his address to the media by wishing well to the other who were contesting for the post adding that this had been a “ mature” campaign.
