I read the article about MLP leaders since 1927 (June 5). Although the feature was very interesting and informative, I think it is opportune to mention one of the founders of the Labour Party before 1927.

Colonel William Savona, son of Sigismondo Savona (leader of the Reform Party and Director of Education in the 19th century) was born in Valletta in 1865. He was a lawyer, army officer and politician.

He was elected president of the Labour Party in 1921. Under the Amery Constitution, between 1922 and 1923, he was a member of the Senate and a minister in the Howard Administration. He was a member of the Legislative Assembly and leader of the Labour Party between 1924 and 1927.

After the election of 1927, Savona failed to be elected and retired from politics. He was succeeded as party leader by Colonel Michael Dundon MD and in 1928 by Dr Paul Boffa. He died in 1937, aged 72 years.
