Herrera withdraws from deputy leadership race
Labour MP Jose Herrera said this evening that he is withdrawing from the race for the post of MLP deputy leader for parliamentary affairs.
Dr Herrera said he had taken his decision on reconsideration as he felt he could better serve the party as an MP among his constituents.
His decision, he stressed, had nothing to do with the election of Joseph Muscat, for whom he had the greatest respect.

@m.portelli
rightly so. One of the first things that JM should do is to reform the party structures, especially the committees and how delegates are appointed. The party delegates are simply not reflective of the labour voter. Most of them, here i'm generalising of course, are simply people that frequent party club having a beer in their spare time, hence the bias in terms of age and gender.

DR. Herrera is far sighted enough not to play to the overtures of those that indulge in medieval intrigue the prerogative of middle-aged MLP men.Call them the whisperers of the CNL ( bright bunch that lot). He is rightly opting to be accountable to his constituents. Most of those who voted for Dr. Herrera are not delegates. They are the ones that will count come 2013. What's a miserable 900 compared to the thousands of national voters. Sensible and dignified I'd say.

Right, so, Dr. Herrera, withdrew, just in time after the new leader was elected. He had been deliberating such a move from before, but only decided to do so, once the leader was elected. Maria, some people will miss the wood for the trees even when the facts hit them in the face. This does not take away any merit from Dr. Herrera, he is an honourable man and well liked even in the PN camp.

@Mario Borg- I think I have to agree with you that the reason may well be that he is not seeing sufficient backing from the delegates that he decided to withdraw from the race.
As to who will fill the posts of deputy leaders, I believe Chris Cardona is very capable to fill such post, but if truth be told, I would much rather see Joe Mifsud keep his post secretary of International affairs as he is doing an excellent job at it not to mention his experience within the party .
I believe that the man to fill such a post as Deputy leader for Party affairs has to be one with a good image, appealing to floating voters and moderate with fresh and novel ideas. Thus, i think that Dr. Gavin Gulia would be ideal to fill such a role.
I'm sure the delegates will do the right choice just as they did last week.

it's probably because Dr.Herrera realised he had absolutely no change of getting the post. It's clear that the posts of deputy leader parliamentary affairs and deputy leader for party affairs will go respectively to Muscat's buddies Chris Cardona and Joe Mifsud.

That is the problems with all you Nationalists propagandists....you just draw conclusion.
Jose Herrera has been thinking about his nomination for deputy leadership BEFORE Joseph was elected leader.
@D.Mallia- I am not apologetic. Do you know Dr.Herrera personally to be able to draw conclusions? No, you did not hear it from the horse's mouth.
@Noel Barry- Yes, I was here in the last few weeks and I have read what the candidates have to say about what happened. Mark my words, that there wasn't an article which I left unread. Of course, we'll let you govern in peace. I have no problem with you governing actually but the PN better be careful on trying to maim this young leader's reputation because it's all going to backfire.
It is futile writing on these PN-dominated blogs without being attacked by PN apologists. I wonder, this is the way you've governed in the past years by spitting venom?

Maria Pace - you are so apologetic towards these happenings. It is clear in my opinion that Herrera does not want to serve as deputy leader under Joey Muscat. It does not make sense that he withdraws now, when it is known who the leader is.

Dear Maria. It seems that you were not here these last weeks because it was full of labour bloggers criticising everything. I t also seems that you have not yet read what the labour leader candidates had to say about what happened. Your are right. You are still celebrating your new leader. Go on and celebrate but remember you have another 5 years to wait. In the meantime let us govern in peace and in calm, which is the only way we know.

Tonight on Bondi Plus, MF and GA said politely they are not ready to work with Jason Micallef, and who can blame them

Why is it that Nationalists are always first to attack and draw conclusions without facts to back up their arguments?
Could it just be that perhaps Dr.Herrera REALLY AND GENUINELY felt that "he could better serve the party as an MP among his constituents".
Dr. Jose Herrera is happy with Joseph Muscat as his leader...and this is a fact and not just because it is written in this article.
Re. Joe Debono Grech...rumour has it that he withdrew his resignation with the party today but I'm not sure about it yet.
