Austrian police detained around 100 German hooligans during Germany's game against Poland in Klagenfurt this evening, Austrian news agency APA reported.
The Germans were marauding the streets in the city centre of Klagenfurt, shouting anti-Polish chants and had been detained for disturbing the peace, APA said.
Earlier in the day, police had warned that potentially violent German, Polish and Austrian fans were known to be in Klagenfurt and others were heading to the city.
Some 2,500 officers are on duty in Klagenfurt, the tournament's smallest host city, including 70 hooligan spotters.
German and Austrian police were highly visible throughout the city centre, standing at street corners close to drinking fans.
Klagenfurt police could not immediately confirm the arrests, though they said earlier in the day that five foreign fans had been arrested ahead of the game.
