Dutch fans have been warned that some of their favourite orange wigs could be a fire hazard at the tournament, the Dutch government has warned.

The Dutch Food and Goods Authority concluded after research that about 30 per cent of the orange wigs and boas could easily catch fire when near a cigarette or a lighter.

In a statement on its Web site, the Health Ministry advised supporters not to wear products which do not need to meet safety standards.

The Dutch police and the national football association (KNVB) expect about 30,000 Dutch supporters to travel to Switzerland.

The Netherlands will play their first match on June 9 against Italy in Berne and also face France (June 13) and Romania (June 17) in Group C.
