Upgrading at Mtarfa school

During a recent prize-giving ceremony at Mtarfa Boys' Secondary School school head Carmel S. Cassar announced a series of improvements to the school's facilities.

In the near future, a mini-football ground, covered with artificial turf, will be constructed in the school's playground. This will be made possible through the dedicated collaboration of the Mtarfa Football Club and the help of the Foundation for Tomorrow's Schools.

The classrooms are being provided with fans and curtains, which have been bought by funds raised by Agatha Sant, Josette Micallef and Elizabeth Galea, three parents who are also members of the school council.

Every class will be provided with an interactive whiteboard, thus enabling teachers to transfer their lessons from the notebook to the whiteboard, rendering the lessons more interesting.

Fund-raising money will also be used to cover the school gymnasium floor with rubber paint and to purchase more books for the library.

Besides rewarding students for academic and personal achievements and reviewing the school's activities during the 2006-7 scholastic year, the ceremony's main feature was an adaptation of the musical The Lion King, produced and directed by Natasha Turner.

Parliamentary Secretary for Health Joseph Cassar presided over the ceremony.
