I refer to the letter by Abigail Scicluna entitled Cost Of Free Wifi At The University (May 23).
Following publication of this letter, the University IT Services (ITS) contacted Ms Scicluna to check about her Wi-Fi connection problems. ITS seeks to respond to all support requests received from students and staff as fast and as efficiently as possible and all users are encouraged to address their IT-related queries directly by e-mail to support@its.um.edu.mt or by telephone on 2340 2148.
The University confirms that the quality of Wi-Fi connections at the library is adequate, as indicated also by other users who have posted online comments on timesofmalta.com in reaction to the letter.
With regard to limited availability of power sockets for laptops, refurbishment works are planned for the summer recess. This is part of an ongoing project that will transform an area on level two of the library into a social learning space.
This will include additional computer workstations and an adequate number of electrical power points for laptop use.
