The Paola-based women's basketball team has confirmed its domination in the local scene by winning its third consecutive championship after beating rivals Depiro 65-49 in the decisive final series game. This effectively means that since its setting up in 1984, Hibs Medsea - originally known as Paola Stars - have now won 12 National League titles, thus registering a unique and impressive record of winning on average a championship practically every other year. No other local women's basketball team has won so much.

This continuous success story is due mainly to the commitment and hard work shown throughout the entire season by all Hibs Medsea players under the guidance of experienced coach Mario Tabone, a former Paola Stars and national team player himself. Likewise, assistant coach Winnie Buhagiar, also a former experienced national team player, performs a key role within the Hibs set-up. A special word of thanks goes to the club's president, Anthony Vassallo, for his sponsorship of Medsea Ltd; indeed it would seem that this partnership between club and sponsor has worked excellently throughout these last three years. Special credit goes also to the club's general manager and mentor Ronnie Calleja for all his incessant efforts to deal effectively with all sorts of problems arising throughout the season.

The youthful element within the squad - indeed the team's average age is one of the lowest among all local teams - augurs very well for the continued future success of Hibs Medsea.

Moreover, the excellent work being undertaken by the youth teams' coaches, particularly Anthony and Silvio Cassar, is already giving the expected results.

Finally, I would like to take this occasion to convey a special well-done also to the Hibernians volleyball and football teams who likewise managed to win their respective national championship among other honours - making it another truly memorable season for the Hibernians women's teams.
