A project on Developing Leaders for Change was approved in April for financing from the European Social Fund to the tune of more than €4 million. Answering a parliamentary question by Evarist Bartolo (MLP), Prime Minister Lawrence Gonzi said the project would consist of training and certification of employees or persons seeking employment in the higher echelons of sectors that directly or indirectly contribute to tourism.

The programmes incorporated in the project are of a practical nature with the aim of achieving expected results, and include mentoring as well as best-practice on-site visits overseas.

Also included in the project are two studies that analyse the level of work and the need of training.

Dr Gonzi said the project aspired to enhance the tourist experience in Malta by improving the quality of service, increasing profitability and competitiveness and integrating innovation in the tourist industry.

The training was being held in both Malta and Gozo.
