Charles Mangion has been sworn in as Leader of the Opposition, succeeding Alfred Sant, who has resigned.

The ceremony was held this evening at San Anton Palace.

Dr Mangion is expected to hold the post until either the new Labour Party leader takes his seat in Parliament or until the MLP elects a new MLP deputy leader for parliamentary affairs.

Dr Mangion has been Acting Leader of the MLP since Dr Sant resigned the MLP top post in the wake of the March 8 general election defeat. He submitted his resignation as Opposition Leader earlier this week.

Dr Mangion remains the party spokesman for financial affairs.

MLP delegates vote for a new MLP leader at an extraordinary general conference tonight while voting for new deputy leaders takes place next week.
