A 21-year-old man arrested in connection with the stabbing murder of a 15-year-old schoolgirl near Waterloo station knew his victim, police said yesterday.

The victim, Arsema Dawit, and her family had made an assault complaint in April, Scotland Yard said, although a spokesman would not confirm it was made against her suspected attacker.

Media reports have said the suspect, who has not been named, could have been obsessed with his victim and been stalking her.

Officers found the schoolgirl suffering from multiple stab wounds in the lift of a block of flats on Monday, making her the 16th teenager to die violently in London this year.
