Thief caught red-handed

A timely tip-off led to the arrest of a 28-year-old man who was nabbed red-handed stealing from a pet shop in Tarxien on Monday night, the police said. The burglar was caught by the police as he tried to escape. The police swooped on the outlet in St Joseph Street after a caller informed them that a theft was in progress, the police said.

They found the pet shop closed but the shutter and door forced open. An implement was found near the shutter.

The thief had already taken a small amount of money from the cash register when he was interrupted by the police.
