Muscat promises winning mentality

Joseph Muscat, the youngest contestant in tomorrow's Labour Party leadership election, promised he would be loyal to whoever the delegates chose as leader.

Should he be elected, his first task would be to meet the other four contenders in order for the party to start moving ahead.

He would also ensure that the national executive and the parliamentary group would meet to decide on a date to elect the party's administration soon so that the renewal process would start gaining ground.

Dr Muscat said yesterday he would forever treasure the leadership campaign experience. The campaign had strengthened his belief that the MLP was rich in human resources and ideas. He realised there was untapped potential and a thirst for change in the way politics is conducted.

He only promised the people he met one thing: He would lead with a positive and winning mentality that would open the party's doors to great ideas and big changes.

He was convinced that the party's vision should be not merely to fulfil but to go beyond the environmental, economic and social aspirations of the Maltese and Gozitans.

The party, he said, should form the basis around which a gathering of progressives and moderates would be built.
