Italian Ambassador Paolo Andrea Trabalza paid a courtesy visit to the University of Malta Junior College in Msida.
Mr Trabalza spoke about the importance Italian always had as a subject among students in post-secondary education.
He noted that about 600 students at Junior College are currently studying Italian at advanced or intermediate level.
The Ambassador made a donation of books about Italian literature, cinema, theatre and culture, as well as maps and other teaching material. The visit, a first at the college by an Italian Ambassador, was organised by Mario Pace, subject co-ordinator of Italian and area co-ordinator for languages, college principal Godfrey Muscat and vice principal Joseph Sciriha, with the support of Domenico Bellato, first secretary at the Italian Embassy.
Mr Muscat presented the Ambassador with a set of four Symposia Melitensia, a Junior College academic journal and a wooden statue of the University Owl.
