Five years jail, €3,000 fine

A man was jailed for a total of five years and fined €3,000 after a magistrate found him guilty of the possession of drugs with the intent to sell on two separate occasions.

In the first case, Magistrate Lawrence Quintano found Glenn Busuttil, 31, guilty of the possession of heroin in circumstances denoting it was not for his personal use and relapsing in June 2007.

The magistrate heard that the police had stopped Mr Busuttil during a patrol and found him to be in possession of 13 sachets containing just over two grammes of heroin.

He also had five mobile phones and Lm159 (€370) in cash. His mobile phone contained text messages that read (translated): "Come to my house and bring four of Lm5 (€12) and one of Lm15 (€28)" and "Be careful as the pigs (slang for police) are roaming about".

He was jailed for two years and fined €1,400 (Lm601).

In the second case, Mr Busuttil was jailed for three years and fined €1,600 (Lm687) for the possession of heroin and cocaine with the intent to sell in October 2007. During a search, the police had found him to be in possession of just over two grammes of heroin and six grammes of cocaine.

Police Inspector Dennis Theuma prosecuted.
