Falzon calls for an inclusive MLP
Michael Falzon insisted yesterday that the Labour Party deserved to return to government as soon as possible but its message had to be positive and inclusive and it had to remain close to the people.
He said the party should have a vision of success. It had to be open to people of any age and social status and needed to attract the best minds.
The party had to be relevant, touching every category of society, including university students, graduates, businessmen and professionals. It had to accept different ideas and encourage constructive criticism. It had to have space for everyone, including those who had left it.
Dr Falzon said he believed the party should become more accessible to its committees, branches, members and the public. To enable this to happen, structures needed to be set up offering a customer care service. Under his leadership, door-to-door visits would be organised in order to reach the highest number of people possible. Policies targeting people's needs had to be drawn up with the involvement of as many people as possible. Regular, open and reciprocal contact with the electorate had to be retained.
Dr Falzon said the MLP had always been committed to strengthening dialogue with the social partners and with all those who made a contribution to society.
