Obituary

CHIRCOP. On June 2, at Loyola House, Naxxar, Brother PHILIP CHIRCOP, SJ, aged 76, went to meet the Risen Lord comforted by the rites of Holy Mother Church. He leaves to mourn his loss his brethren of the Society of Jesus in Malta and abroad, his sister Giorgina, widow of Carmel Mangion, his nephews and nieces, other relatives and friends.
Mass praesente cadavere will be said today at 4 p.m. at Loyola House, followed by interment in the Jesuits' vault at Naxxar cemetery.
May he rest in the peace of the Risen Lord.

CUSCHIERI. On June 2, VICTOR, of Mosta, residing at L-Iklin, aged 60, passed away peacefully at Mater Dei Hospital comforted by the rites of Holy Church. He leaves to mourn his loss his wife Helen, his children Leo and his wife Alice, Ian and his wife Anna, his sisters Edwige and Doris and her husband Paul, his in-laws, other relatives and friends.
The funeral leaves Mater Dei Hospital tomorrow at 8 a.m. for Mosta parish church where Mass praesente cadavere will be said at 8.30 a.m. followed by interment at Santa Maria Addolorata Cemetery. No flowers by request but donations to Dar tal-Providenza, Siġġiewi would be appreciated.
Lord grant him eternal rest.

De DOMENICO. On June 1, at his residence in Marsaxlokk, PHILIP, aged 64. He leaves to mourn his loss his beloved wife Maria Victoria, his sons Simon and Jonathan and his fiancée Charlene, his mother Evelyn, his sisters Margaret and her husband Roger, Angela and her husband Mark, their children, other relatives and friends.
Mass will be said at St Gregory's parish church, Sliema, today at 8.45 a.m., followed by interment at the Santa Maria Addolorata Cemetery.
Lord, grant him eternal peace.

WONFOR - Madeleine. Died peacefully on June 1, aged 67. Dearly loved wife and best friend to Martin. Devoted mother to Anna and Sarah and grandmother to Max. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends.
Funeral Mass at St Winefride's Church, Leyborne Park, Kew, Richmond on Monday, June 9 at 3 p.m. No flowers but donations if desired to the Holy Family Home for the Elderly, c/o Mrs P. Troubridge, Dar Indri, Triq San Ġorġ, Gudja.

ZAMMIT. On June 2, at Mater Dei Hospital, LUIGIA, widow of Emanuel of Balzan, aged 82, passed away peacefully comforted by the rites of Holy Church. She leaves to mourn her loss her daughters Marilyn, Marcelle and her husband Joseph, Odette and her husband Patrick and her son Fr Joseph OSA, her sisters Antonia widow of Tom Francis, Adelina wife of Peter Paul, her brother Paul widower of Maria, grandchildren, nephews and nieces, in-laws and friends.
The funeral leaves Mater Dei Hospital tomorrow at 8.10 a.m. for Balzan parish church where Mass praesente cadavere will be said at 8.30 a.m. followed by interment at Lija Cemetery.
Lord grant her eternal rest.

Requiem Masses

Tomorrow being the third month since JOE GIALANZE's meeting with the Risen Lord, a Mass for the repose of his soul will be said at 7 p.m. at St Julians parish church. The attendance of relatives and friends will be appreciated. Always in our prayers.

Last concert of Cultrural Institute

The last concert of the Malta Cultural Institute will be held at the Phoenicia Hotel in Floriana on June 16 at 7 p.m.

The ninth concert will feature a pianoforte recital by Janet Falzon, a voice and piano presentation by mezzo-soprano Vanessa Magro and Ms Falzon, and Mary Jane Bellia and the Ray Mamo Ballet School in excerpts from Etudes, Sleeping Beauty, Don Quixote, the Enchanted Forces, Coppelia and Pirates of the Caribbean.

The programme is coordinated by Marie Therese Vassallo.

Centenary of Salesian Oratory

The Salesians will celebrate the centenary of the Salesian Oratory in Sliema on Saturday. A Mass of Thanksgiving led by Fr John Horan will be said at the Oratory yard on the day at 7.30 p.m. A commemorative plaque will be unveiled after the Mass. A two-act musical entitled Jisimni Giovanni will also be staged in the yard. Tickets can be obtained at €5 (Lm2.15) from the youth centre from 6 p.m. onwards.

Anniversary concert

The Soċjetà Filarmonika Pinto of the St Sebastian Band Club of Qormi will mark its foundation day and its 146th anniversary on Thursday. The Pinto Brass Band will present the anniversary concert in front of the club at 7.30 p.m.

Grand bazaar

The Attard parish annual grand bazaar will be held at the parish centre on Saturday and Sunday between 9 a.m. and 8 p.m. Everyone is welcome.

Arms collectors for Malta conference

The Foundation for European Societies of Arms Collectors will hold its annual conference in Malta at Le Meridien, St Julians.

Delegates from EU member states will take part in the activities which for the first time include a public seminar to be held on Friday on the theme The EU Arms Directive And the Arms Act 2005.

The foundation was involved in the consultations leading to the adoption of the recent amendments to the Arms Directive. Its local affiliate is the Association of Maltese Arms Collectors and Shooters which was the driving force behind the introduction of the Malta Arms Act 2005.

Art students' exhibition in Rabat

Ġmiel ir-Rabat is the title of an art exhibition being held by Matthew Cassar and 16 of his most promising students. The theme focuses on Rabat and its environs, and the exhibition boasts over 50 works of art, in a diversity of media.

Each participant has chosen a particular characteristic of the rural and urban areas of Rabat, focusing on rural, agricultural, religious, cultural and abstract features. The exhibition can be viewed at the Wignacourt Museum in Rabat until June 20. It is being held through the support of the Rabat local council and Canon John Azzopardi, curator of the museum.

Antique and old furniture sale

An antique and old furniture sale will be held at St Helen parish centre, Birkirkara, behind the Basilica, from Thursday to Sunday. The opening hours are Thursday and Friday from 5 to 7.30 p.m.; Saturday 9 a.m. till noon and 4.30 to 7.30 p.m.; and Sunday from 9 a.m. till noon.
