Michael Falzon has again promised that if he is elected MLP leader, he will work for the MLP to be positive in its outlook, welcoming to new supporters, and close to the people.
Those, he said in a statement, were the ingredients that would get the party to governemnt in the shortest possible time.
He said the MLP needed to be attractive to all members of society, whatever their age or background. It had to be a party which was relevant to everybody, including university students, manual and clerical workers, professionals and people in business.
“The party has to accept pluralism of ideas within it. Constructive criticism needs to be welcomed and accepted. We have to see an end to the mentality that when two disagree, they are therefore against each other, “ Dr Falzon said in a statement.
He said the party needed to welcome back those who had left, and it needed to be accessible to everyone.
Dr Falzon said the party should have a proper customer care unit and organised door-to-door visits to the people, while policy-making needed to involve as many people as possible.
The party, he said, needed to strengthen dialogue with the social partners and all those who could, in any way, contribute to the wellbeing of Maltese society.
