A particular product has been advertised on local TV as being "mingħajr preservattivi", which is a literal translation of "without preservatives". It is quite obvious that, in this case - as, of course, in many others - the translation should take into consideration the Italian meaning of the word, for in most cases Maltese loan words are borrowed from Italian.

In this case the right word should have been "preservanti". As everyone knows, "preservativi" is the Italian word for condom.
