Veteran scouter Thomas Vella-Zarb, 77, a Maltese-Canadian retired teacher, has been awarded the Malta Chief Commissioner's Personal Award in appreciation of his dedicated service to the Scout Association of Malta. Mr Vella-Zarb became involved with the scouts in Malta in 1944 and the first thing he did on emigrating to Canada in 1957 was to join a troop in St Thomas as a leader. Eventually he became a Rover Advisor in Thamesville. He was also bestowed with Scouter Emeritus status in recognition of his service to scouting and the international scouting promotion of his country of birth. He received the honours during a national scouting event held in Kingston, Canada recently.
