Steve Pelan's letter of May 22 regarding the high tech flexible structure proposed for the Opera House site was most refreshing. He positively pushes for the government to make a win-win decision to finally do something positive and constructive with this focal and prime site.

Giovanni Trevisan correctly believes that the mere presence of his proposition will breathe new life, provide a strong cultural heartbeat to the city and add light to those entering Valletta. Mr Pelan says that "the entrance to Valletta should be a great event". We should make this project a bridge between the past and the future.

Sixty-six years ago, The Royal Opera House was bombed during an enemy attack.

In the same way, it only took three days for the original architectural plans for Valletta to be presented to Grandmaster La Valette, and only three months before the first stone was laid, let us get on without further delay.

Mr Trevisan's proposals are a step towards a final solution, a dramatic resolution on how best to utilise the Royal Opera House site. Valletta has everything to gain especially as it will have a new jewel to add to her sparkle and the Caravaggio Foundation can offer a final resting place for the Mostra Impossibile collection of all Caravaggio's works currently touring the world.

Essentially, this is a multi-purpose building which has the potential to be a major centre for Caravaggio studies worldwide with a repository library for research work focused on Caravaggio. It can be many things to many people.

It will be an added major attraction to the city and it will provide a 1,000-seat auditorium for multiple creative purposes including, as Tonio Fenech put it, "What should be built on this site could be a seat for Civilisations in Conversation".
