Hastings monument
Hastings monument in Hastings Garden, Floriana, is a small, Greek-type temple providing cover to the reclined figure of the governor. It was constructed in 1826 under the responsibility of A. Woodford. The figure of the Governor is carved to resemble a reclined Roman Emperor sitting in the shade of the temple surrounding him. It was customary at the time to design buildings and monuments in the idiom of ancient Greek and Roman architecture, hence this style is called Neoclassical (new classical).

The monument is in the form of a cenotaph, a monument commemorating a person whose remains are not buried at that same place.

Mepa scheduled Hastings monument as a Grade 1 national monument as per Government Notice number 276/08 in the Government Gazette dated March 28, 2008.
