Francis Rizzo, 56, of Birkirkara was arraigned in court this evening and accused of having slightly injured a police sergeant and threatened the sergeant and three policemen.

The incident happened in Birkirkara yesterday when the police were inspecting various establishments and the man was allegedly found smoking.

He was accused of having disobeyed and violently resisted the police and with smoking in a bar where smoking was prohibited.

Magistrate Dr. A. Vella granted him bail on a personal guarantee of €5,000.

Inspector Kevin Farrugia prosecuted.
