Falzon pledges pro-business policy

Labour Party leadership contender Michael Falzon said yesterday that it was the government's duty to create a climate that favoured business.

Speaking during a meeting with the Chamber of Commerce of Enterprise, Dr Falzon said that, with him as leader, his party's policy would be pro-business. It would be a policy that favoured jobs and profit-making.

However, on the other hand, the government had to ensure that the country received the contributions it was due so that everyone would get one's share of the created wealth.

Dr Falzon noted that there should be cooperation between politicians and employers even in view of the fact that governments were taking on a more regulatory role.

The main motor of the economy was now in the hands of the private sector, including chamber members, he said.

Chamber president Tancred Tabone said it was in the chamber's interest that the two big parties were strong and had a clear vision. He was pleased that Dr Falzon was part of the race but whoever won should always be there for the commercial sector.
