Citroen reveals new C5 Tourer
Citroen has released details of the new C5 Tourer. The Tourer stands at 4.83m long and 1.48m tall, gaining 5cm and 3cm respectively over the saloon. Three trim levels are being offered - SX, VTR+ and Exclusive - all of which will have the same specifications as the saloon version. The car is available with the same range of engines as the saloon too; consisting of two petrol and four HDi diesels with power outputs ranging from 110bhp to 208bhp. The C5 Tourer will also be the first in its class to be offered with a choice of steel springs and Citroen's self-levelling hydractive suspension. The Tourer also comes with the option of being fitted with a panoramic glass roof.
New entry-level Chevrolet Captiva
Chevrolet has announced a new, lower-cost version of its Captiva off-roader. The Captiva 2.0 VCDi LS includes 16-inch alloy wheels, heated door mirrors, MP3 socket, steering-wheel mounted audio controls and six airbags. With increasing competition from new entrants such as the Ford Kuga and VW Tiguan, Chevrolet evidently wants to make its off-roader more appealing. The engine is a 150 bhp diesel that provides acceleration from 0-60mph in 10.8 seconds and a top speed of 112mph.
Honda reveals plans for hybrid family car
Honda has revealed plans to launch an affordable hybrid car early next year. The car, which has been designed to allow more people to adopt a cleaner motoring strategy, is expected to be a five-door model, capable of carrying five people, although no technical details have been given. Honda say the car will offer good fuel economy, manoeuvrability, comfort and styling, sitting on a completely new platform. It is also hoping to reduce production costs with a lighter, more compact battery and control unit as well as a thinner motor, which is being produced at Honda's Suzuka plant. Honda expects sales of around 200,000 units of the new car, which will eventually be joined by a sporty hybrid, based on the CR-Z Concept, an all-new Civic Hybrid and the addition of a Jazz Hybrid model.
