The Institute of Financial Services will hold its annual seminar on Financial Turmoil In International Markets: What Lessons Can We Learn?
The prevailing credit crisis which began early last year with rising defaults in the US sub-prime mortgage market has continued to spread and is now affecting Europe. The IMF estimates that total losses and write-offs from this crisis could reach $945 billion with banks expected to suffer slightly more than half.
Why are we experiencing this financial turmoil? Is the euro area going to suffer the same fate? What lessons can we learn? What needs to be done to overcome the financial crisis?
To answer these questions and discuss this topic and issues involved, two international speakers will address the seminar. They are Stuart Green, global economist, HSBC Bank UK, and Klaus Vondra, economist, National Bank of Austria. The seminar will be chaired by economist Gordon Cordina.
It will be held at the Hilton on Wednesday from 2 p.m.
