Injured fisherman airlifted to hospital

A 57-year-old Greek fisherman was airlifted to hospital by an Italian Military Mission helicopter this morning after he suffered head injuries while working on a fish farm service boat 85 miles off Malta.

The AFM said it dispatched the helicopter with an Italian-Maltese crew at 10.10 a.m.

The fisherman, Slavolujub Yavanovic, was treated by AFM Air Wing rescuer Lance-Bombardier Derek Pepe and then hoisted to the helicopter, where he received further treatment from Surgeon Lieutenant Colonel Robert Galea as the helicopter flew to Mater Dei Hospital.
