EMCS is organising the second real estate forum on Wednesday. The Forum is being organised in association with the Federation of Estate Agents and will be following up on the success of the first Real Estate Forum held in March last year.

EMCS is aiming to hold this event annually. The first real estate forum, that was held last year, indicated a strong need to have a mature and serious debate on the state of performance of the sector.

Industry professionals also placed emphasis on the need to look at Malta's real estate market as made up of various sub sectors and that it is important to take into consideration the differences in features as well as the differences in demand that pertain to the different sub sectors. A more thorough understanding of the structure of the real estate market will better help Malta not only to design policies relating to the real estate sector but also to better define strategies related to the promotion and growth of this sector.

Real Estate Forum 2008 is intended to centre on the importance of upgrading the investment and lifestyle value of real estate in Malta.

The forum will focus on addressing the manner in which Malta should be positioning Malta's real estate offer on the international market and in particular in highlighting the relationship between the sale of Maltese real estate to foreigners and the performance of the tourist industry. In Malta we have also vaguely captured the fact that the purchase of real estate by foreigners is a form of foreign direct investment and this needs more discussion.

This year's forum will be addressed by a select group of industry experts that includes professionals, property developers, estate agents, bankers, and an international property expert who is addressing the forum as a special guest of the Federation of Estate Agents.

It will also be addressed by Parliamentary Secretary for Tourism, Mario De Marco who will be highlighting his views on positioning the real estate product as an integral part of Malta's unique tourism value proposition.

A high level delegation from the finance ministry will also be attending to explain and answer queries of a fiscal nature.

This Forum is being held in association with the Federation of Estate Agents.

The Times accepted to be the official media partners of the forum, and together with representatives of other media are helping to ensure that what is debated is communicated to the rest of the Maltese community.
