How to choose a winning song (1)
After every Eurovision Song Contest many complain about the blatant bias of several countries which, irrespective of the merits of the song or its presentation, give the highest votes to their neighbours - a system which has been described by Terry Wogan of the BBC as a joke.
Unless the present voting system is changed this farce will continue. I think that a fair way to choose the best song is to appoint an independent panel of nine persons from non-participating countries (not necessarily European) to judge the songs in the semi-finals and to appoint another panel from the same non-participating countries to select the best song in the final. The voting should be held in public. The present voting system should be retained as comic relief and the winning song awarded a consolation prize.

Good ideal Carmel.
Martin, take Ukraine for example....Russia has been threatening throughout their existance since they broke away from the Soviet Union, recently they have been threatening to cut off oil and gas supplies as well as consistantly increasing the prices of these commodities, while there is much speculation that they tried to assasinate the pro-western leader of the Ukraine.....be honest with yourself, if you were a Ukrainian....would you be voteing for Russia?
the vote is rigged from the very start by officals from each country; the televoteing is just a shirade in most countries.
Here's another few good suggestions for making a successful song:
1. choose a good song next time Malta.

It is easier to influence a small jury than a whole country. Lobbying made easier. The country investing most will win. Please appoint me as one of the judges! I will love touring around Europe and not paying for anything.
