Union in meetings with Mcast lecturers

The Malta Union of Teachers will be meeting lecturers of the Malta College of Arts, Science and Technology over the coming days to discuss its current dispute with the college.

The dispute revolves around the new collective agreement covering January 2007 to December 2010.

The first meeting for lecturers will be held late this afternoon, with others scheduled until June 3.

Last week the union called off actions at Mcast as a sign of goodwill and in consideration of students' concerns. For the previous two weeks lecturers had not carried out any other duties apart from delivering lectures, with students voicing concerns about the effect that prolonged action would have on assessments, end-of-year exams and certification.

Students had appealed to lecturers to take such effects into consideration and urged them to find other ways to negotiate their demands.
