The Malta Philharmonic Orchestra, directed by Kevin Abela and led by Nadia Debono, will be presenting an evening of music from various soundtracks of some very well-known films.
The concert, dubbed Movie Spectacular, will take place at 8 p.m. at the Mediterranean Conference Centre's Republic Hall on Sunday.
Lino Attard, chairman of the Malta Philharmonic Orchestra's board of directors said that it is the board's policy to support and encourage the individual musical talent of the orchestra's members, thus giving them merited exposure which helps expand their musical experience.
The decision in this particular case was prompted by the highly successful Movie Spectacular presentation at the Valletta Palace's Neptune Courtyard last summer by a brass and percussion ensemble. This time the music will be further enhanced with the participation of a full orchestral complement.
Among the sound tracks will be music from the films of Charlie Chaplin, some of the James Bond films, Star Wars, The Mask of Zorro, Spiderman and Harry Potter. The arrangements are very faithful to the original music.
There will also be the concert premiere of Ray Sciberras's Procession, taken from the music he wrote for the locally produced film AD XXXIII which was released this year.
