Former semi-finalist Nicole Vaidisova became the first seeded casualty at the French Open today when she was beaten 7-6 6-1 by fellow Czech Iveta Benesova in the first round.

The 15th seed, who reached the last four two years ago, failed to get going in the second set and skidded out by dumping the ball in the net.

World number 70 Benesova's win in 76 minutes handed Vaidisova her worst showing at the claycourt slam in four visits.
