There are quite a few day centres for the elderly, which are run by the Ministry for the Care of the Elderly with the co-operation of local councils.
Night centres, however, have been discussed at many seminars. Many elderly dread spending the night alone and the solitude is unbearable. Residential homes are fully booked with long waiting lists. The elderly's pensions make it is impossible for them to meet the expense.
Many large convents and priories are nowadays only occupied by a few nuns or clergy. How about allowing the elderly to spend the night there, against a minimal payment? It would be another act of charity and kindness on the Church's part.
