Children attending all primary schools in Gozo took part in a Sports Day at the Gozo Sports Complex. About 20 children from each of the 11 state and four Church primary schools participated in various events.
Trophies were also presented to the winners of the football and netball leagues organised during the scholastic year for all primary schools in Gozo. This year's winners were The Bishop's Conservatory team for football, while Mons. G. Andrea Vella Primary School in Żebbuġ clinched the netball prize. Fair play trophies were also given to teams from Kerċem and Għajnsielem primaries.
In her message for the occasion, Gozo Minister Giovanna Debono spoke on the importance of sports which, she said, brought people together.
"Sports is one of the main ways to help children, young people and adults to keep fit and healthy.
"Children who play and enjoy sports are less likely to join in anti-social activities," the minister said.
Mrs Debono congratulated all winners and praised the participants for their involvement in such an activity which help youngsters to integration in a wider environment from such a tender age, in accordance with the principles of our education system.
