Civil Protection, Enemalta, launch major training exercise

The Civil Protection Department in conjunction with Enemalta Corporation, is holding a major training exercise at the oil storage depot at Has Saptan.

Taking part are close to 100 personnel training to combat a fire emergency and pollution risk. A fleet of fire engines, ambulances and other emergency vehicles is descending on the scene, where a number of people of people have been "injured”.

Officials from MEPA and the Occupational Health and Safety Authority are also taking part.

Such exercises are required under the EU Seveso Directive, so named after the 1976 accident at a chemical plant in Seveso, Italy.
