GWU-Air Malta dispute settled

The GWU said this afternoon that its dispute with Air Malta over the filling of vacancies had been resolved.

The two sides reached agreement during a conciliation meeting convened by the Director of Industrial Relations.

The GWU had accused the airline of having breached the collective agreement by not giving automatic promotion to workers who had been doing work of a higher grade for more than a year. It also warned of industrial action. The airline had denied the charge.

The union said it had now been agreed that in order to fill vacancies, the airline would issue an internal call for application for all employees who had been doing work of a higher grade for more than a year. The union would be collecting details of such eligible workers.
