Emirates Footballer Challenge

Shield winner Scerri (right) and runner-up Ciantar with officials Martin Davis, Richard Felice Pace and Paul Shipwright.

A young player from Luxol St Andrew's FC was declared as overall winner of the Emirates Airline Young Footballer Challenge 2008. Zack Scerri, who also won the U-11 category, was coached by Vic Cumbo. He received the Emirates Shield from Paul Fleri Soler, Emirates Manager for Malta and Cyprus. The runner-up and winner of the U-12 category was Robert Ciantar. He was coached by Jason Cachia from Dingli Swallows FC. Almost 50 talented footballers, including 10 girls, battled it out for the title of the fifth Young Footballer Challenge, which was held recently at the Victor Tedesco Stadium. This event was organised by the Arsenal Malta Supporters Club and sponsored by Emirates, the Dubai-based international airline. The Challenge was also supported by Arsenal FC.

Well done to all for the good organisation, and an all round good experience for all the participants.
However with such a good number of participating girls, a separate competition(challenge trophy) for girls would have been more appropriate.
