Obituary

BONNICI. On May 20, at Mater Dei Hospital, JOHN of Żejtun, residing at Żejtun Home for the Elderly, aged 87, passed away peacefully comforted by the rites of Holy Church. He leaves to mourn his loss his son Carmel and his wife Tessie, Victor and his wife Tessie, Joseph and his wife Lilian, Paul and his wife Connie, Anthony and his wife Gracie, Catherine and her husband Emanuel, Mario and his wife Rita, Connie and her husband Anthony, his brother Franz and his sister Lilian, his grandchildren and his great-granddaughter Cherizian, other relatives and friends.
The funeral leaves Mater Dei Hospital today at 3.30 p.m. for St Gregory's church, Żejtun, where Mass praesente cadavere will be said at 4 p.m., followed by interment at St Gregory Cemetery, Żejtun. No flowers by request but donations to Dar Nażaret, Żejtun, will be greatly appreciated. The family regret they are unable to receive visitors.

BORG. On May 20, VICTORIA, née Bartolo, of Mellieħa, aged 86, passed away peacefully comforted by the rites of Holy Church. She leaves to mourn her irreparable loss her husband Anthony, her children Jane, wife of Charles Vella, Agnes, wife of Joe Caruana, Doris, wife of Michael Carwana, Marthese, wife of Marcel Spiteri, Anthony and his wife Connie, Joe and his wife Josephine, her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, her sisters Margaret and Mary, her brothers Anthony and Alfred, their spouses and families, other relatives and friends.
Your selfless love touched the lives of all who knew you. We will miss you.

SAMMUT. On May 19, at St James Capua Hospital, Sliema, MOSES (auctioneer), aged 81, passed away peacefully comforted by the rites of Holy Church. He leaves to mourn his great loss his devoted wife Nancy, his sons Joseph and his wife MaryAnn and George and his wife Vikki, his grandchildren RayAn and Matthew, his brother, Fr Salvatore Sammut, his sisters Carmena, widow of Joseph Baldacchino, Rose, widow of Joseph Azzopardi, and Mary Anne, nephews, nieces and their families, other relatives and friends.
The funeral leaves St James Capua Hospital today at 3.15 p.m. for Our Saviour parish church, Lija, where Mass praesente cadavere will be said at 3.45 p.m., followed by interment at Lija cemetery. No flowers by request but donations to Dar tal-Providenza, Siġġiewi, will be greatly appreciated.

Workshop cancelled

The music workshop that was scheduled to be held under the auspices of the London College of Music and Media on May 28 has been cancelled due to "unforeseen circumstances".

Art lecture

Heritage Malta will be holding a public lecture on the exhibits that are currently on display in an exhibition entitled Views of Gozo (1800 - 1940) at the Banca Giuratale in Victoria.

The lecture will be delivered by Nicoline Sagona, curator of the Ġgantija Temples, who will be placing the works in their art historical context and give a synoptic overview of landscape painting in Malta between the late 18th and early 20th centuries.

The lecture will be held on May 30 at 7 p.m., in the Upper Hall of the Banca Giuratale in Victoria.

Attendees will be invited to view the actual works of art after the lecture.

Charity Day

De La Salle College's sixth form students will be holding a Charity Day dedicated to Kare4Kenya on Friday.

During this event the students will take part in a number of activities to raise funds for the children and youths of Kawangware. These will commence at 9 a.m. and will end at 12.30 p.m.

The funds raised during the event will be sent to Kawangware to help in its children's education, giving them access to mainstream schooling and providing them with uniforms, food and salaries. The funds will also help both the children and their families medically.

HSBC-JCI accord

HSBC has signed an agreement with Junior Chamber International (JCI) Malta, an organisation of young business leaders and entrepreneurs, to renew its corporate partnership for the 10th consecutive year.

The agreement, renewable within two years, provides financial assistance as well as tangible support towards JCI Malta's varied programmes and projects.

Card party

A card party in aid of the Little Sisters of the Poor will be held at the Preluna Hotel, Sliema on June 4 from 10 a.m. For bookings one can call Blanche Martin on 2133 0387.

Seminar on women

A seminar entitled Discovering The Woman As The Gift Of God will be held on Saturday between 9 a.m. and 12.30 p.m. at St Monica school, Gżira on the occasion of the 20th anniversary of Pope John Paul II's Apostolic Letter Mulieris Dignitatem. Archbishop Paul Cremona will conclude the seminar.

ICT courses

IT Minister Austin Gatt yesterday inaugurated the third edition of the myPotential ICT programme.

The programme is a government initiative together with the private sector, offering 82 courses, which vary from a Masters degree to basic certification. Those attending the course are eligible for a refund on education, books and exams.
