People who can't get up in the morning or laze about all day doing nothing are often compared with a rather sweet creature that is known as the laziest in the animal kingdom.

The three-toed sloth is the slowest mammal in the world. But sloths are not total sleepyheads. Scientists have proved they're not as sleepy as imagined. They found that sloths kept in cages sleep for more than 16 hours a day, but in the wild they need less than 10 hours.

Now experts have fitted sloths in the Central American rainforest with a sleep monitoring device.

They hope the results of their study on the slow-moving creatures may help people who have problems with sleeping.

Different animals need different amounts of sleep. For example, pythons sleep for 18 hours a day and giraffes survive on just two hours.

How much sleep do you think humans need?
