Two corpses and 10 lifejackets were found at sea in two positions off Malta yesterday morning, the Armed Forces of Malta said.

The first corpse, which was not wearing a life jacket, was reported by a ship 42 miles west of Malta.

An AFM patrol aircraft later spotted another corpse without a life jacket, and 10 life jackets, floating some 53 miles south of Malta.

The gruesome find points to another possible immigrant tragedy, as boats loaded with asylum seekers cross the Mediterranean in increasing numbers as the weather gets milder.

Last week, 49 migrants died off the Tunisian coast. Another five corpses were recovered from Maltese waters in recent days.
