The Malta Transport Authority has appointed an independent board to investigate claims of abuse in the award of driving instructor licences.

The ADT appointed the board on the instructions of Transport Minister Austin Gatt after a person sitting for a driving instructor's examination claimed he was told he need not sit for the exam, implying he would not be passing, irrespective of whether he deserved to or not.

The minister said that if the board found that ADT officials had behaved incorrectly, immediate disciplinary action would be taken.
