Education on all aspects of sports and exercise medicine is among the principle responsibilities of the Maltese Olympic Committee. With this objective in mind, the Medical Commission, within the MOC, in conjunction with the Olympic Solidarity, are once again organising a seminar 'An active role in the promotion of the health of athletes' over four days, between May 29 and June 1, at the Old University, Valletta.

The purpose of the seminar is to continue raising the awareness of sports science for the benefit of athletes, coaches and officials.

Exhibition stands will be open to participants. These will provide information, professional advice and samples.

Topics that will be covered include the role of exercise in obesity management, sports medicine in Europe, the Olympic Movement Medical Code, anti-doping regulations, exercise testing and evaluation and injuries.

Fabio Pigozzi, Deputy Rector and Director of IUSM, Rome, Emin Ergen, from the Ankara University School of Medicine Sports, and Susan Greinig, Medical Pro-gammes Manager for the IOC, will be among the foreign guests invited for the seminar.

Local speakers will include Kirill Micallef Stafrace, chairman of the MOC Medical Commission, Lucienne Attard, chairperson Doping Commission, Olga Fedotkina Galea, Aaron Formosa, specialist in sports and exercise medicine, David Attard, chairman Malta FA Medical Committee, Danica Spiteri, Senior House Officer Mater Dei Hospital, Ivan Esposito, consultant orthopaedic surgeon, and physios Milos Stanislajevic and John Xerri de Caro.
