Obituary

HYZLER. On May 19, at her residence in Balzan, MARIA, passed away peacefully comforted by the rites of Holy Church. She will be very deeply missed by her sister Josephine, her brother George and his wife Vera, her dear nephews George, Karl and Mario and their families, relatives and friends, especially Lina Farrugia.
The funeral leaves her residence today at 2.15 p.m. for Balzan parish church where Mass praesente cadavere will be said at 2.30 p.m., followed by interment at the Santa Maria Addolorata Cemetery. No flowers by request but donations to Dar tal-Providenza, Siġġiewi, will be greatly appreciated.

SAMMUT. On May 19, at St James Capua Hospital, Sliema, MOSES (auctioneer), aged 81, passed away peacefully comforted by the rites of Holy Church. He leaves to mourn his great loss his devoted wife Nancy, his sons Joseph and his wife MaryAnn and George and his wife Vikki, his grandchildren RayAn and Matthew, his brother, Fr Salvatore Sammut, his sisters Carmena, widow of Joseph Baldacchino, Rose, widow of Joseph Azzopardi, and Mary Anne, nephews, nieces and their families, other relatives and friends.
The funeral leaves St James Capua Hospital tomorrow at 3.15 p.m. for Our Saviour parish church, Lija, where Mass praesente cadavere will be said at 3.45 p.m., followed by interment at Lija cemetery. No flowers by request but donations to Dar tal-Providenza, Siġġiewi, will be greatly appreciated.

Employee wins Champions League tickets

Martha Azzopardi, call centre representative at Melita Cable will be flying to Moscow, Russia for the UEFA Champions League Final after winning an internal competition organised by the company for its employees.

Melita gave the opportunity to its employees to submit creative concepts that are aimed at improving the company's product portfolio. A judging board chose Ms Azzopardi's concept as being the most creative and business-oriented which would add value to its Melita Sports package.

She will be taking her colleague and friend, Nikolai Magri, as her guest to Moscow. The prize includes return flights, accommodation at a luxury hotel, two VIP passes to the Champions League hospitality area, as well as tickets to the grand event.

Resident's programme for artists

The French Ministry of Foreign Affairs is offering foreign artists a resident's programme at the Recollets International Accommodation and Exchange Centre to confirmed writers and artists.

Artists will be selected by a board of examiners on the basis of a project they would like to develop in Paris during their stay.

Feast of St Rita

The feast of St Rita will be held on Thursday in Floriana. Mass will be celebrated in the church of Santu Rokku at 10 a.m. and 4.45, 6 and 7 p.m. The one at 6 p.m. will be celebrated by Bishop Emeritus Nikol Cauchi while the one at 7 p.m. will be celebrated by Mgr Carmelo Aquilina, parish priest of Iklin. A procession will then be held at 7.30 p.m. Other celebrations will be taking place at the St Helen Basilica.

Condolence book for earthquake victims

A book of condolences has been opened in observance of the national mourning being held in honour of the earthquake victims in Sichuan, China. The book is available at the Chinese Embassy in Karmnu Court, Triq Lapsi, St Julians between 10 and noon until tomorrow.

Philately meeting at Guardamangia

The Bank of Valletta Philately Club will hold a meeting at the Fatima Sanctuary convent in Guardamangia, near the parish priest's office, today at 6 p.m.
